Going, going, going. [07 Nov 2009|09:22am]

[ mood | productive ]

I'm on my third load of laundry already, and it's a gorgeous day out. I hope to take advantage of this by being extremely-very-majorly productive today.

I started the day with a quick call to my bestie to tell her that I missed her. That always puts a smile on my face, too. And I could hear little Catherine in the background saying, "Mama! Mama! Mama!" Love that little girl, I do.

I did some more holiday shopping last night, and now I've got a dining room FULL of gifts that need to be wrapped and boxed for shipping. That's high on the agenda today, but I need to swing out to the store to get some shirt boxes first. I'm considering baking cookies while I'm wrapping, too.

I'm paying bills right now (well, I was... then I stopped to make an entry, that is), and I'll be heading out in just a moment. I am excited and happy for this big, beautiful day!

A holiday update. [05 Nov 2009|08:27pm]

[ music | Butterfly Fly Away ~ Hannah Montana: The Movie Soundtrack ]

Jack and I headed out this evening to begin our holiday shopping. We worked very hard for over two hours, and we made a lot of progress! I'm now happy to report that gifts have been purchased for six special people. That means we only have, let's see... um... six just-as-special people left to buy for. We're halfway done - YAY!

At the very end of our shopping, we passed a makeup section, and Jack was all, "OOOOOooooooh!" He wanted to show me the LipSmackers that his teacher sometimes uses, and he was super stoked to find a Dr. Pepper flavor one. I let him have the 85c chapstick for being such a big help to me in picking out gifts, and he is over the moon tonight about his flavored lips. What a funny guy!

As we were piling purchases into the car, I scouted the parking lot for a cart return. I spotted one, but it was a few aisles over. After emptying out the cart, I let Jack return it, but I warned him to walk slowly and look for traffic constantly. I then started the car and crept alongside him. He did exactly as I asked, being very vigilant in looking for cars, and then he politely pushed the cart all the way inside the return, as the beginning of the next neat row. He then hopped inside the car with me, and I navigated the rest of the parking lot.

"Why were you looking at me with that funny look out the window, Mom?" he asked.

"Hmm?" I questioned. "What are you talking about, bud?"

"You were watching me real close with a kinda smile on. Did you think I couldn't do it by myself?"

I sighed a mother's sigh. "No, sweetie. I knew you could do it. I just look at you sometimes, and I can't believe you are as big as you are, and that you can do all the things you now can. You are just growing up so very fast, you know?"

"I know, Mom," he said knowingly, nodding in the rearview mirror. Then he smiled that loopy smile of his, and he gazed out the window into the clear night.

Writer's Block: Here's looking at you [05 Nov 2009|04:51pm]

What is your all-time favorite, romantic movie scene? What about it speaks to you?

View 970 Answers

My Favorite all time romantic movie scene is at the end of When Harry Met Sally (and no one is surprised) when Harry comes to the New Year's Party and says the following:

Harry Burns: I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

That is one of the reasons I wanted to get married on New Year's Eve, and we did. =)

(See not dead, just super busy and tired and almost ready for Dicken's and then P-Con and  Reader's Studio and finally BayCon)

Lynne Greene! [05 Nov 2009|07:47pm]

Picture it: New York, 2009

My mom's boss' cousin is Lynne Greene - and of course, we all know that Lynne Greene flawlessly portrayed the young Dorothy on several episodes of The Golden Girls.  Now Lynne Greene is the head writer for Nip/Tuck and lives in California.  Mom's bosses recently went out to Cali for a family visit and saw Lynne Greene and told her about me and my obsession for Golden Girls and asked if she would sign something for me.  Apparantly at first she laughed, because she didn't believe this was real.  But they explained that I'm really obsessed with GG and was excited when I found out we were seperated by less than six degrees, and she agreed to sign something for me!  And I had absolutely no idea, it was a complete surprise when my mom called me and said she had a Lynne Greene autograph for me!

I wish I could scan it, but I don't have a working scanner :(  However, I can tell you that it's a scanned copy of an old TV Guide cover with her and Bess Armstrong on the cover (they did a show in the early 80's called "On Our Own") and she wrote "Dear Margaret, I look exactly like this today! You're so sweet to remember me.  All the best, Lynnie Greene."

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH how cool is that?

The Fleet's In (1942) [05 Nov 2009|12:45pm]

Did anyone catch "The Fleet's In" on TCM last night? I just happened to catch the last few minutes of it. It stars William Holden and Dorothy Lamour in a wartime musical comedy. It's in the style of "Hollywood Cantina" I guess. The bit that I saw was a show for the sailors that featured some bizarre/funny comedy/musical acts. Gil Lamb was hilarious as the MC. Betty Hutton even has a small part as Dorothy's best friend. The song Betty sang had her over-the-top energy! But what blew me away was how YOUNG William Holden looked! I barely recognized him! It was before he was famous, obviously, but he looked twelve. Great fight towards the end that adds to the comedy. The ending is pure romantic fluff as well.

The film also features Jimmy Dorsey and his band knocking everyone's socks off as usual.

Random is as random does. [04 Nov 2009|10:05pm]

I have been working, working, working, and working some more lately - craziness! This week, I should pull into overtime again, too.

I've gotten back into the beta'ing bug again for my dear friend [info]kataclysmic. Even if just for one story, it's been fun, and I've realized how much I've missed this in the last couple years. Dramione, how I still love you. ♥ ♥ ♥

I bit the fingernails on both of my ring fingers much too short yesterday morning, and they were both SO SORE all day yesterday. Today, they're not as sore, but they do feel awful funky as I click away on this keyboard. My poor left middle finger should be worried, as he's the next to go.

** Yes, I bite my fingernails. I always have. I could care less whether you find that disgusting because I find it to be the best way to cut as very, very, VERY close as possible, and I loathe taking care of my nails, so I prefer to do it the least often possible... meaning it needs to be TO.THE.SKIN.**

I need to begin my Christmas shopping. Last year, I was on top of things. In fact, last year, I was sickeningly jolly in my holidayness. I had all our gifts purchased and/or made, already gift-wrapped and stacked decoratively in a corner, and photographed (for PROOF!) on this day, November 4th. And then I sent it out to most everyone I knew. After all, how can you properly hate me without knowing the full extent of my awesomesauce? ;-)

This year, I've got diddly-squat done so far. Okay, okay - that's not entirely true. A couple gifts have already trekked out to AnnieMcFranniePants ([info]the_mommy_in_me), but that's it. There are, however, a few in the later stages of being made, so I suppose that's something. But I desperately need to get out there, get shopping, get back here, get wrapping, and get shipping. QUICK!

We got the boys' school portraits a couple weeks ago. I should probably share those, right? I know, I know... "this post is useless without pictures" is ready and waiting in the wings of the comments, so I'll just cut to the chase and share 'em:

A.J. Jack.

Eh? Love 'em? I'm think they are both good pictures, but I also know that neither of those smiles are genuine for my boys. I guess I'm happiest that they save up their very best true smiles for me! ;-)

(It DOES make you wonder though, doesn't it, if the photographer even CAN center a child for their picture. I mean, GAH.)

lights, camera, ACTION! [03 Nov 2009|07:54pm]

describe
[ music | carol of the bells - sandi patty ]

Today, I went with Jason to one of his clients' houses to pick up a check and discuss a project for J to do. Normally I don't go with him on these adventures and if I do, I just hang out in the truck. But for some fancyschmancy reason, Jase really wanted me to come inside and meet the guy. I think I even groaned a bit and put up a fuss (Hi, I'm 5 years old). But he insisted (Hi, I also do as I'm told) so I went inside.

And boy, am I glad I did (Hi, I've also gone back to 1958 golly gee whiz oh boy!).

This client, Eric, is a musician. Actually, I should probably call him a guitarist. Not only was his house beautiful, but this guy had... his passion for guitar and music basically exploded all over the house. And it was amazing. In one corner of the room was his recording equipment, guitars on stands and an entire bookshelf FULL of notebooks (with, I assume, songs written inside), books on guitar, tab books, chord books, etc. All over his walls were these huge art pieces of guitars. He had the "anatomy" of a classical guitar framed and hanging on the wall. He had porcelain guitar statues on his shelves, Tommy in the DVD player and a Flamenco guitar CD on the couch. The guy has serious passion about this guitar business. Obviously.

And I don't know what it is, but ALL IT TAKES for me to get all fired up about acting when I'm feeling down is seeing someone as passionate as I am about ANYTHING. I walked in and my breath was seriously taken away. Seeing his love for the guitar... I can't even describe it. I'm being super incoherent now and I... apologize.

All of that to say that I love when people are passionate about something. And as we were leaving, I said to Jason, "God. That was amazing." He said, "I knew you'd love it, that's why I had to take you in." I told him about how it totally fired a light under my ass and then mentioned how when I was younger and my bedroom was the garage, I really wanted a stage in there with lights and stuff so I could practice and rehearse lines and feel like a real actor. I said, "When I get a house, I will have one!"

He said, "Wanna do it at mine?"

And then we went to Lowe's. GUYS. GIRLS. ANIMALS, VEGETABLES AND MINERALS. My boyfriend BUILT A STAGE in his spare bedroom. It took him about 45 minutes and it was DONE. It's... amazing. It's not huge, obviously, but it's just like the stage we had in our drama classroom in high school. When I first learned it was okay to get up there and do my stuff. I was just... blown away by him. We decided to paint it black and hang black curtains behind it. He even fixed the spotlights already in the room so that they were all pointing to the stage and creating actual stage lights. And since he was already deciding on building himself a booth to do his voiceover projects, he decided to turn the huge closet in this room into a VO room. He can set up a desk, the mic and everything. I was like, "This can be our art room!" because he can even shoot his photography in there.

He said building the stage was cathartic for him. It made him feel good and then he stood on it and delivered a monologue, raving about how good it felt and how it seemed like he was really on stage.

This entry is very poorly written and I'm sorry. Part of it is seriously because I'm so DAMN excited about having a stage to work on, that I can't even function on typing.

To be with someone who is so passionate about everything makes my life quite the production. Literally.

Anyone ever name their pets/electronics/etc. after a GG character or reference?

Aside from some variant of "SHADY PINES, MA!" being my username for almost everything these days, I recently acquired a shiny new 32 GB iPod Touch, and I decided to name her Dorothy Sue, after Dorothy, who I've pretty much adopted as my online persona, and my grandmother who passed away recently. (And really, Dorothy Sue really does sound good together.) You can see Dorothy Sue here, here, here, and here. I got the red case because it was both mine and my grandmother's favorite color. (In fact, the whole family made sure to have red in their outfits at her funeral because of that. My red came in the form of red suspenders and a red tie.)

I figure if anyone would get a kick out of me naming an electronic device after a Golden Girl, it'd be you guys. XD

This is like Blanche's version of that moment at the end of the episode where Rose brought in all those dogs.

I kept giggling through the whole video because of the music and the fact that there was way too many cats going around and she was like trying to touch each and every one of them.

[fanfiction] Paper Cranes: Chapter 1~ Calling Dr. Love [01 Nov 2009|06:15pm]

cafe_nervosa

[kirakaze]
(doing this before I completely chicken out XD)

Title: Paper Cranes
Author: [info]kirakaze
Pairings: Frasier/Niles, with the eventual crack!pairings of Niles/Roz and Niles/Sam Malone. Mentions of most canon pairs.
Genre: Romance, ANGST, drama, smut
Rating: M for sexual situations and angst overload
Warnings: Incest (obviously), too much sexing, ANGST ANGST ANGST, suicidal!Niles, depressing themes, a few choice words peppered here and there, bad writing, a few chapters of a violent kidnapping plot....tell me if I missed anything. XD
Spoilers: Follows canon up until "The Last Time I Saw Maris" and splits off into an AU. Includes a few canon events later on.

Disclaimer: I own nothing but my own words. If I owned the show and the characters, do you really think I'd be writing fanfiction? :P
Also, this is a very dark, depressing story. There will be humor in keeping with the spirit of the show, and fluff, but for the most part, it's depressing and angsty, almost melodramatic. If you don't want that, you might want to move along. But I'd love to have you along for the ride here. ^^

Summary: After tolerating Maris's selfish behavior for the last time, Niles confesses his feelings for Frasier. As the brothers struggle to come to terms with their unorthodox attraction to each other, they find themselves caught in a dangerous web of scandal and peril where not only their careers, but their lives, are at risk. When a devious scheme forces Frasier to reevaluate his priorities, the brothers' troubles are only about to begin...

Chapter Summary:
As a psychiatrist, I'd listened to countless tales of woe and tried my best to alleviate the tension, to offer possible solutions to whatever my patients and callers suffered through. I'd given advice to similar problems before, but none of those situations could have ever prepared me for this.

Chapter 1~ Calling Dr. Love

Master post & chapter list

I would love you forever if you tried out the first chapter. ^______^;; There's gotta be a few closet-Cranecest fans here (I met a few of you here, c'mon~ XP)

If this is too horrifying for the general populace, I'll delete. xD

-runs off...fast XDDD -
